Jeanette’s Little Haven Christian Academy was founded in April of 1994. In doing research for finding a location, it was made known that there was a need for a day care center in the Vickery Meadow area. We began leasing the old clubhouse of the Holly Bend Apartments located at 7110 Holly Hill Drive. Being the visionary of this business, I knew that a day care center would project a positive image for this area. We remodeled the building to bring it up to the code that would allow us to operate as a center. Within a six month period, the center grew tremendously, which allowed us to lease the contract building and have the capacity be increased to 66 children.
In 1997, we purchased the land next to it to enlarge the clubhouse building, which now holds the capacity of 243 children.
I, Jeanette Hinton Jones, came to this area to make an impact in the development of this area. My goal is to continue to educate and promote a safe environment for the children. While being in the Vickery area, I have established a relationship with the Vickery Meadow division.
Several programs are offered through our daycare center. Summer Camp is offered to children of ages 6-12. The activities include arts and crafts, self-esteem classes, field trips, and swimming. The Summer Camp allows the children to be productive during their summer vacation. We provide a Parent Support Group. Parents meet on the 3rd Friday of each month. We plan monthly seminars that provide education and networking opportunities for the parents. Our focus is to make every parent realize that it really takes a village to raise a child. Jeanette’s Little Haven Christian Academy plays an active role in several events that are sponsored by Vickery Meadow such as the Fun Fest and Back to School/National Night’s Out and we volunteer when needed.
Jeanette’s Little Haven Christian Academy is concerned about the well-being of children within this community. We have enhanced this area by maintaining our property. Vickery Meadow’s future looks bright through the eyes of Jeanette’s Little Haven Christian Academy. We plan to be around for years to come. One of our goals is to accredit the day care so that we may be able to serve this community better. Our motto states that Jeanette’s Little Haven Christian Academy is a child’s home away from home.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Jeanette’s Little Haven Christian Academy is to build on the whole child. Because each child is special and unique, we will focus on the development of the child spiritually, socially, physically, and intellectually.
Our curriculum consists of child-initiated and teacher-directed activities designed to meet the development needs of the children we serve. The curriculum will provide experiences in art, music, language arts, math, science, and physical activity.
God’s place in the universe as our creator, provider, and sustainer will be taught to the children we serve. We hope to create an ongoing experience between the children and God by teaching that He is a loving God who knows our needs and provides for each one of us.
